Student/Resident Experiences and Rotations in Community Health

Providing opportunities for health professions students and residents to work with caring clinicians in communities of need.

Funding provided by the National Health Service Corps, Bureau of Health Professions.

Follow the Lewis and Clark trail to interesting and diverse Oregon. See the ruts left by the wagon trains, climb mountains, raft whitewater rivers, discover fossils and the excitement of the Pacific Ocean.  Oregon is all of these and more. Oregon has both large metropolitan areas and scenic rural and frontier communities to explore.  Opportunities for exciting, stimulating and challenging health care experiences abound. Who qualifies for the program?

Students and residents interested in primary health care for under-served populations including:

  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Physician Assistant
  • Medical Students (both clinical and pre-clinical)
  • Residents in Family or Internal Medicine
  • Dental Students
  • Social Work Students
All participants must be enrolled in an accredited educational program. The institution you are affiliated with must provide malpractice insurance for you during your experience.

 

How long are the opportunities?

Four to six weeks depending on educational program requirements, schedules etc.

Summer interdisciplinary opportunities are available for students to work on a population based project with other health professionals-in-training.

Oregon is a large and geographically diverse state. Opportunities are available throughout the state, in rural, frontier, and urban areas.

Health professionals-in-training will be matched with an available site in a Community/Migrant Health Center or Rural Health Clinic. Placement for a non-clinical rotation in a Medicaid managed care organization is also available on a limited basis.

Stipends:

Provided to cover costs of housing, travel and living expenses.  Some academic programs prohibit the payment of stipends if you receive course/rotation credit for your experience.
