ALCOHOL AND DRUG ABUSE TREATMENT COUNSELOR This is a unique opportunity to make a difference with a special organization. Founded in 1970, NARA NW is a group of coordinated programs and facilities that utilize a holistic approach to alcohol and drug dependency treatment. The focus is culturally appropriate to our population of Native Americans, Alaska Natives and other vulnerable or underserved people in Portland, Oregon. NARA NW is an Indian owned and operated private, non-profit. Services are centered on the family/community circle where traditional Native American culture and spirituality are honored as a basic component of service. This philosophy is upheld in our mission and throughout all activities of the organization. Our “wraparound” programs include treating our community by addressing physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs. Drug / alcohol abuse treatment and mental health services are coordinated with NARA’s other programs for on-site evaluation and counseling. Provide treatment to clients in either our residential facility or outpatient program. Utilize a collaborative process that facilitates the client’s progress toward mutually determined treatment goals and objectives. Work with clients to establish realistic achievable goals consistent with reaching and maintaining recovery. Provide weekly one-to-one counseling, referrals, complete charting and documentation. Facilitate group sessions, including organizing materials (books, slides, films) and equipment. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS - CADC1 or CDS1 or higher - HS Diploma or higher or equivalent - At least 1 year paid experience as a chemical dependency counselor - Experience presenting treatment - Ability to demonstrate disciplined empathy for alcohol/drug abuse clients - Understanding of illness concept of alcoholism/drug abuse/chemical dependency - Knowledge of AA, NA, Alateen and other support groups - If in recovery, must have at least two years of sobriety/clean time - Commitment to non-drinking, non-drug abuse behavior both on and off the job - Ability to pass background check (all hires) with no history of sexual or child abuse - Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen (all hires) TO APPLY Email cover letter, resume and salary requirements to jobs@NaraNorthwest.org Excellent benefits, matching 401K, Health, Dental, Paid vacation, more.
