The Accounting Technician position requires in-depth or broad knowledge of accounting or financial systems and procedures. The Accounting Technician follows tasks, methods, and procedures, and is also expected to produce reports, investigate problems or errors, and conduct reconciliations where information is incomplete, and nonstandard procedures might be necessary. The Accounting Technician will be responsible for general accounting functions including maintaining the general ledger and fixed asset schedules; processing cash deposits; maintaining grant contract files; preparing financial statements and internal reports; providing backup for accounts payable and purchasing. The Accounting Technician will coordinate with billing staff on patient fee accounts receivables, will help develop systems to improve efficiency of accounting functions; will produce detailed quarterly reports to DHS for all grants; prepare and enter complex journal entries relating to payroll and accrued revenues and expenses; prepare and track purchase orders and produce monthly reports for management staff. ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN REQUIREMENTS: Associate’s degree in Accounting plus 3 years of progressively responsible accounting technician experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration is desirable but not mandatory. Experience in Health Care setting preferred but not required. Knowledge: Authoritative knowledge of accounting procedures and techniques; including accrual accounting. Knowledge of automated accounting systems and computer processes and capabilities to assemble, review, and maintain complex accounting, budget, or fiscal transactions and tracking cost and report generation for state and federal grants. Knowledge of MIP software preferred. Skills: Intermediate to advanced MS Excel and MIP software skills; skill in operation of modern office equipment and machinery; use of automated equipment including computers and a variety of accounting software; report and budget preparation. Abilities: Able to analyze and prepare complex and detailed financial records. Able to reconcile and reconstruct incomplete accounting information and conduct extensive searches for required information. Able to use nonstandard procedures and techniques to resolve unusual problems or address management requirements. Able to use initiative and judgment in completing tasks and responsibilities. Able to courteously meet and deal effectively with other employees, agency representatives, vendors, contractors, the public, and others.
